Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you as you explore our department's website. The Department of Industrial and Production Engineering University of Ibadan boasts a rich heritage, with roots dating back to 1980 when we introduced Industrial Engineering concepts as service courses within the Faculty of Technology. Since then, we have evolved and expanded, gaining recognition as the pioneering program of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In 1983/84, we achieved a significant milestone when our undergraduate (B.Sc.) program received the University Senate's approval. The following year, in 1984/85, we proudly welcomed our inaugural cohort of students. Over the years, our commitment to progress has seen us expand our offerings to encompass postgraduate programs, including M.Sc., MPhil, and Ph.D. degrees. In 2012, we introduced the Professional Masters in Engineering Management (MEM) program.

In our ever-evolving world, we continuously review and enhance our courses. Our focus areas include supply chain management, computer software development, entrepreneurship, lean manufacturing, and automation, ensuring our graduates are at the forefront of industrial and production engineering practices.

Our undergraduate B.Sc. program offers a well-rounded education, encompassing core compulsory courses and the opportunity for specialization in areas such as Ergonomics/Human Factors Engineering, Production/Manufacturing, Operations Research, and Engineering Management. Key topics covered in compulsory courses range from Manufacturing Processes and Engineering Economics to Maintenance and Work Systems Design, culminating in a Research Project Work and Seminar for each student.

In line with our commitment to societal impact through community engagement, the department has established robust industry engagement initiatives. Our Alumni network plays an active role in fostering connections within the industry. For instance, in partnership with our Alumni Association (IPEAA), we host a monthly Alumni Lecture series that has become a reputable platform for alumni, corporate associates, and industry contacts to convene and deliberate on national and global issues of significance. We cordially invite you to join our enlightening discussions, typically scheduled for the second Friday of each month on Zoom (https://us06web.zoom.us/j/2924711735?pwd=N3hOWGxJai9sUlg1Z0VlR0o5aGNiZz09). You can access previous episodes on our YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_-wF_KYncv5ON-RhKEmgPw for your convenience.

To meet the immediate needs of our nation, we have garnered acclaim for organizing post-experience short courses tailored to Engineers, Technologists, and professionals in fields such as Engineering Management, Plant Management, and Quality Assurance. Additionally, we contribute to addressing youth unemployment by offering professional certification and vocational skill acquisition programs to both the university community and the wider society. One notable program, the Enterprise System Education for Africa (ESEFA) project, is run in collaboration with SAP University Alliances, making SAP-Enterprise System (ERP) skills and professional certification accessible to Nigerian students.

Another impactful community service initiative is the i4.0 Work System Garment Lab program, a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) endeavor in partnership with Zucchini Fashion Company. This program aims to equip our students and young individuals with employment-generating skills spanning the entire clothing and fashion industry value chain.

These innovative programs have not only set new standards in Nigeria but have also consistently piqued the interest of prospective students. Our distinguished faculty, with their rich experience in teaching, research, and industrial practice, form the backbone of our department. We take immense pride in their dedication and commitment to nurturing the engineers and leaders of tomorrow.

As you navigate this website, you will find comprehensive information on our admission requirements, regulations governing our B.Sc. program, insights into the field of Industrial and Production Engineering, and detailed descriptions of the courses we offer.

We invite you to explore the wealth of knowledge and opportunities that await you in our department. Join us as we collectively shape the future of Industrial and Production Engineering.

Welcome to our online platform, and we look forward to your engagement and participation.
