In addition to the academic programs, we also offer the professional Masters in Furniture and Interior Design (MFID) which is designed to provide specialist training for practitioners or intending practitioners in Furniture & Interior Design and other qualified persons seeking career development opportunities that will enhance their technical competence and status in administrative capacities in the furniture and interior design industries.
Programme Objectives
The broad objective of the programme is to provide undergraduate instructions in the application of scientific and engineering principles to the production, design and utilization of wood and other biomaterials.
Programme Educational Outcomes
The Wood Products Engineering programme is poised to:
1. Produce graduates for global career opportunities in the building construction industry, forest products and allied biomaterials research establishments, industries that manufacture lumber and veneer, wood furniture and cabinets, or other wood-based products, pulp, paper, etc. This cannot be resolved without in-depth engineering knowledge, as well as a strong ethical foundation to consider societal and environmental factors.
2. Prepare graduates to take on postgraduate studies in different branches of engineering, including Wood Products, Mechanical, Industrial & Production, and Civil Engineering, and other disciplines. Graduates will have a strong engineering foundation and a commitment to lifelong learning, facilitating their pursuit of advanced degrees.
3. Develop graduates who are capable of self-motivation and self-improvement. Graduates will embrace lifelong learning as part of their engineering practice, enabling them to continually update their knowledge and skills.
4. Equip graduates with leadership and team-working abilities, as well as entrepreneurial skills. Graduates will understand their roles in society, work effectively in teams, communicate their ideas clearly, and apply project management and financial knowledge to lead and contribute to projects effectively.
1. Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The broad objective of the Wood Products Engineering Department of the University of Ibadan Is to provide undergraduate instructions in the application of scientific and engineering principles to the production, design, and utilization of wood and other biomaterials. Thus, our graduate attributes are:

The Department focusses on ensuring that students gain requisite skills which they would need for solving real-life problems. Our program is therefore designed to stimulate knowledge, skills and attitude that the students require while progressing through the program. Our specific Programme Outcomes (POs) that will guarantee achieving our graduate attributes (GAs) are summarized as follows:
P0-1: Acquire and apply scientific and Engineering principles, grounded in natural sciences and mathematics. Recognize and interpret their application in real situations, including Wood and Biomaterials Engineering, their use in sustainable construction and production.
P0-2: Identify and analyse complex wood and biomaterial engineering related problems, draw inferences from literature and substantiate conclusions using engineering principles.
P0-3: Develop solutions for complex engineering problems. Design systems, components, or processes within the prescribed specifications relevant to Wood and Biomaterial Engineering, while considering appropriate public health and safety, societal, and environmental impact.
P0-4: Conduct investigations on complex Engineering problems, and specific to Wood and Biomaterials Engineering using research-based knowledge and methods to provide justified conclusions.
P0-5: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and computational tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering problems with an understanding of their limitations.
P0-6: Evaluate and apply appropriate techniques to assess contemporary societal, health, safety, within legal frameworks and environmental considerations for sustainable development.
P0-7: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and norms of engineering practice and adhere to safety precautions and employ relevant national and international laws.
P0-8: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse and inclusive teams and in multi-disciplinary, face-to-face, remote and distributed settings
P0-9: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and society.
