EXECUTIVE COUNCIL NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS (NSE) IBADAN BRANCH VISITS FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY

Members of the Executive Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ibadan branch visited the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan on Thursday, 30 January, 2014.  The seven man team, comprising Engr. R. A. Salawu, the Chairman, Engr. Ilori B. O. (FNSE), the immediate past Chairman, Engr. Wale Ojoawo, the Vice Chairman, Engr. Dauda Ayanda (MNSE), Assistant Technical Secretary, Engr. F. A. Badmus, Financial Secretary, Engr. W. O. Ajagbe, General Secretary and Engr. Ojedele A. O. (MNSE), an Ex-Officio member, came purposely to re-establish the relationship between the society on the one hand and the Faculty of Technology on the other.

The Dean, Faculty of Technology, Professor E. A. Ajav was on hand to welcome them.  Other members of the Faculty present were the Head, Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Professor A. O. Raji, Ag. Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. F. A. Olutoge, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor A. Olatunbosun, Ag. Head, Department of Food Technology, Dr. R. Akinoso, Ag. Head, Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, Dr. O. G. Akanbi, Ag. Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. A. A. Dare and Ag. Head, Department of Petroleum Engineering, Dr. S. O. Isehunwa.

Also in attendance were Dr. O. E. Simolowo, the Sub-Dean (Postgraduate), Dr. N. A.  Adewole, the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate), Oluwatoyin O. Dibosa, the Faculty Officer and K. K. Adeogun, the Administrative Officer, Dean’s Office.

The NSE, Ibadan branch Chairman threw light on the following:

  1. Activities of the NSE, Ibadan branch for the year 2014
  2. Inauguration of a Publications Committee to publish Engineering journal
  3. Upgrading of students’ arm of NSE with UI as the centre
  4. Dedication of a room as library

Thereafter, the Chairman requested the Faculty to:

  1. encourage  all members of academic staff to register with the NSE
  2. encourage members to participate fully in all activities of the society
  3. encourage prompt payment of both branch and national dues by members
  4. ensure a registered and an active member  takes charge of the  NSE general course in the Faculty
  5. dedicate an office to students’ Engineering Committee with the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) as overseer
  6. ensure NSE’s full involvement and collaboration in Induction Ceremony activities

    The Dean expressed delight over the visit to the Faculty.  He enjoined the Executive Council of the Ibadan branch of NSE to create enough awareness about NSE activities and give adequate information on the benefits accruable to registered members.  He stated that the Faculty would soon contact NSE for their nominee on the Board of the Faculty. 

    He then promised that a registered and an active member of the society would be in charge of the NSE course.  He stated that the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) would work on a suitable office for NSE students’ arm.  He also promised the full involvement of the NSE in Induction Ceremony activities henceforth.  He solicited the support and full cooperation of the NSE to uplift the Engineering profession.

    A member of the Faculty stated that attractive benefits to members would engender a rise in the interest for registration.  He enjoined the society to ensure the Newsletter is richly endowed with reports on advances in the profession and novel inventions

    Another member solicited for openness and transparency in the registration process while the last speaker solicited support and togetherness between NSE and the Faculty to be able to collectively uplift the Engineering profession.

    At this juncture, the NSE Ibadan branch Chairman thanked the Dean and the entire Faculty members for the warm reception accorded his team.  Thereafter, he presented a gift to the Dean.

    The Dean thanked them for the courtesy visit and the Faculty Officer gave the vote of thanks.
