MEETING WITH THE GERMAN AMBASSADOR OVER COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY ON PROVISION OF SOLAR ENERGY.
The German Ambassador Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel and her team - Prof. Heinz-Dieter Wenzel and Dr. Burkard Weth the Attaché for Press and Cultural Affairs, German Embassy visited the Faculty on Friday, 6 December, 2013 at 2.30 p.m.
On hand to welcome them were the Dean, Prof. E.A. Ajav, Dr. A.A. Dare, Acting Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr .O.A. Fakolujo, Acting Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr. D.A. Fadare, Head, Technical Support Unit, Dr. A.S.O. Ogunjuyigbe of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Dr. O.S. Ismail of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The Ambassador stated their mission which was to do a pilot project on Solar Energy within the University. She disclosed that this project had already been introduced in the Northern part of the Country but has not been executed because of the security situation there.
She hopes that the University would partner with some German companies and that she is interested in what the University can provide in terms of Land and Finance.
The project would be good for capacity building. It would also give students the opportunity to work on the practical aspect of the project.
The team was informed that the University had had an initial contact with a German Company, Solar Centrum and that it already has solar energy in place that powers the offices of some Principal Officers, their residence and some street lights around the University.
The Ambassador, then stated that she could get some grants but it would not be able to cover the cost of the whole project and that if the University is interested, it can apply for a long term, low interest loan from a bank in Germany to complete the project.
The meeting concluded that a proposal would be forwarded on the needs in the University to the Ambassador.
